PRESIDENT INTRODUCTION

This year the Port of Motril Authority celebrates the 10th anniversary. For these 10 years of management, the Port of Motril has experienced an undeniable development.

Its specific location and investments made in new infrastructures have become a key factor in the administration, management and exploitation of the port.

During these 10 years, the port has undergone important milestones such as celebrating the first 100 years, the construction of the new inner harbour “Las Azucenas” and the urbanisation of the logistic activities area. Moreover, current works for the extension of the sea wall and the development of our Strategic Plan ranks nowadays the Port of Motril in the top at national level.

It is more than obvious that the port has been defined as an engine for economic development in the Costa Tropical and the province of Granada. This is so not only due to its net increase in all these years but also to the strong economic links existing and increasing around its activity, which has been undoubtedly multiplied thanks to the new regular connections between the Spanish peninsula with Melilla and Nador and Al Hoceima in Morocco.

Highways have made the Port of Motril even more competitive allowing the transit of any kind of merchandise without going through urban areas.

Throughout this time, personalities, companies, institutions, members of the port community and, especially, all the staff of the Port Authority have been supporting us. Without their work, efforts and engagement, we could not be what we are.

It is also to be highlighted the activity carried out by the previous President of the Port of Motril Authority, Mr Angel Diaz Sol, who properly run a great period of this stage up to 2014. Also the role of other Presidents of the Port of Motril who also contributed with their management for the port to be a satisfactory reality, before the creation of the independent Port Authority.

In order to celebrate the 10th anniversary, the Board of Directors of the Port of Motril Authority, in a session held on April 30th, 2014, agreed on the creation of the PORT OF MOTRIL PRIZES in their first edition. The aim is to recognise and thank the task of companies, institutions, public administrations, social organisations, entities and individuals carrying out a significant activity in relation to the Port of Motril and its environment.
